LC Schools has been selected to receive a $10,000 Grant Award for the 2026-2027 WHAS Crusade for Children! This generous grant will be used to support sensory-support classrooms, enabling children with unique abilities to unlock their full potential and lead lives filled with endless possibilities!
Mrs. Jamie Russell, LC Schools Director of Special Education & Preschool,
shared her excitement, saying, “We are truly grateful to the WHAS Crusade for Children for its support.
This grant will provide much-needed sensory supports that will help our students feel safe, regulated, and
ready to learn!”
The WHAS letters represent the call signs of WHAS-TV, a radio and television station located in Louisville, KY. Established in 1954, this annual charitable campaign serves as a public mission dedicated to raising funds for children with special needs, as well as addressing their health care, educational, and emotional wellness needs. The Lawrence County Schools middle school band program is delighted to share that it has been awarded
the Smith-Steele Reese grant, amounting to $48,000. This generous funding will enable the middle school band programs at Blaine, Fallsburg, and Louisa Middle to acquire 18 instruments for each school. The most essential instruments needed include clarinets, flutes, and trumpets.
Our LC Band Instructor, Mr. Scott Smith, shared, “I am so pleased that the foundation chose to honor our request. This award provides more equitable accessibility for our students to participate in instrumental music. Instrumental music is a strong part of a school culture, provides opportunities to excel academically, and reinforces social and emotional stability. I am grateful for this opportunity to make this investment in our kids. It's a win for Lawrence County Schools and a win for music education.”

We are also sharing our updated attendance policies! Please take a moment to read the 26-27 LC School Attendance Policy! New for the 26-27 school year: After (10) medical excuses, the Medical Excuse Form MUST be completed and approved to receive additional medical excuses.
We are excited to welcome students back to their classrooms on Wednesday, August 12th!

Having been part of this incredible school and community for more than 20 years, I find this opportunity both professionally and personally meaningful. Fallsburg has a strong tradition of excellence, caring relationships, and commitment to students. As principal, I look forward to working alongside our students, staff, families, and community partners to build on those strengths while identifying new opportunities for growth and student-centered success.
"I am sincerely grateful to Mrs. Webb and the Site-Based Decision-Making Council for their confidence in me as the next leader of Fallsburg. As always, Proud to be a Dragon!
