Today, as we celebrate Senior Night, we are highlighting our LCHS Cheerleading Senior, Miss Hayden Boggs. Hayden plans to continue her cheerleading career at the collegiate level while pursuing a degree in Nursing. Her career goal is to become a NICU Nurse, where she hopes to make a difference in the lives of newborns and their families.

New Student Organization at LCHS: Youth Environmental Health Coalition
The Science Department is excited to announce a new student organization at Lawrence County High School: The Youth Environmental Health Coalition. Chaired by Dr. Aggy Vanderpool and partnered with Ms. Patricia Shepherd of the Lawrence County Health Department, the Youth Environmental Health Coalition focuses on how the natural environment affects human health, including water, air, and soil quality. The University of Kentucky Healthy Way Program awarded the YEHC a grant to investigate surface water quality in Blaine Creek in Lawrence County. The study is titled, "Dangerous Waters: The Effects of Surface Water Contamination on Health and Well-Being in Lawrence County, Kentucky". This fall, YEHC students sampled Blaine Creek above and below Yatesville Dam as well as the public launch area at Yatesville Lake. The sampling included multiple water-quality chemical analyses and a quick scan for E. coli bacteria. YEHC students will present their findings in April at the University of Kentucky Healthy Way Appalachian Research Day.
Levi Roddenberry, LCHS Senior, YEHC member and member of the 2026-27 APES Class, shared, "The Youth Environmental Health Coalition has opened doors for leadership opportunities to connect what I learn to real work, and to do work that I really believe in. I hope to help educate the public with our discoveries."
LCHS students who participated in this event include: Rain Gerardi, Elle Parsley, Ethan Preece, Sophie Preece, Michelle Owens, Levi Roddenberry, Caden Slone, and Andrew Wolford.

Celebrating Principal Appreciation Month at Lawrence County High School!
In honor of National Principal Appreciation Month, LCHS proudly recognizes our high school principal, Mrs. McDavid, for her dedicated leadership, passion, and vision. A great principal sets the tone for an entire school—making an environment where both students and teachers feel supported, valued, and empowered to succeed.
Reflecting on the impact educators can have, Mrs. McDavid shares a personal perspective about two role models who shaped her own journey: "When I think about the educators who made the biggest difference in my life, I have to choose my parents because they both taught me something different that I still carry with me today. My mom has always had a way of making people feel heard, welcomed, and important. She sees the good in people and situations, and she is naturally everyone's biggest cheerleader. I also learned a lot about work ethic just by watching how much time and care she put into preparing for her classes each week. My dad taught me to be comfortable being myself and not spend too much time worrying about what other people think. He treated students with respect and taught in a way that made people want to listen and learn. I was lucky enough to have him as my teacher my senior year, and I learned so much from him about the world and about life. As a principal now, I see pieces of both of them in the way I lead. I want people to feel supported and valued, but I also want to be genuine, treat people right, and create a school where students and adults feel comfortable being themselves."
This commitment to partnership, character, and community lies at the core of effective education. As educational researcher Anne T. Henderson noted: "When parents are involved in their children’s education, the kids do better in school, the schools get better, and the community benefits." Best of luck to our LCHS Boys Soccer team as they play against Johnson Central in the 15th Regional Tournament tonight, Wednesday, October 21st, at 8:00 PM! Kickoff is scheduled for 8:00 PM, with Johnson Central hosting the game. Let's make plans to pack the stands tonight and support our Bulldogs!
The Bulldogs brought home the win last night in an intense game against Pikeville! LCHS Head Soccer Coach, Scott Johnson shared some insight into the game. "Last night was the BATTLE we knew it would be! Pikeville has a really good team with a lot of senior experience. They got the best of us in the regular season, but we knew we could stay in it last night. The team never let up, and we won the marathon matchup. Our boys came in clutch in the final PK's and showed a lot of maturity in that situation. I couldn't be prouder of them. Johnson Central has been the team to beat all season in the 15th region. They are a very well-rounded squad and will present some problems for us. We have a plan, and if we execute, we hope to win the region championship."
Assistant LCHS Soccer Coach Aaron Wellman shared his excitement after last night's victory. "Very proud of the boys for their performance last night. It's always good to get back a win after a regular-season loss, and our team certainly wanted this one after losing a close game to a strong Pikeville team last month. The energy last night was fantastic, from the intensity at opening kickoff to the confidence in penalties.

Our LCHS carpentry and engineering departments recently collaborated on the schematic diagram and construction of the new greenhouse for Blaine Elementary School! The LCHS engineering team used AutoCAD to design the greenhouse architectural plans and build the structure. BES will utilize the greenhouse with its new Career & Technical Education middle school classes. This addition will make such a wonderful educational difference for these students as they explore hands-on Career & Technical Education opportunities!
Mr. West, the LCHS Engineering Instructor, shared details about the project. "The Blaine Elementary School greenhouse project is another excellent example of our district’s commitment to creatively and strategically enhancing career studies opportunities across all of our middle schools. As part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen our CTE programs at LCHS, our Engineering and Carpentry programs have teamed up to take a project from 'cradle to grave.' Over the past eight months, our engineering and carpentry students have been involved in nearly every aspect of a typical building project, including budgeting, estimating, design, and construction. This project was unique because our Intro to Construction students designed and built the greenhouse as modular sections in our shop in spring 2026. The individual sections were built like large 'puzzle pieces,' allowing the structure to be disassembled into 12 sections and transported to Blaine Elementary School. A select team of General Carpentry students reassembled the greenhouse on site, providing them with valuable, hands-on experience while bringing the project to completion. This project has directly impacted approximately 75 LCHS Engineering and Carpentry students and will have an even greater and lasting impact on students at Blaine Elementary School for years to come."
We appreciate our LCHS Carpentry Instructor, Mr. Bradshaw, and Engineering Instructor, Mr. West, for their instruction, hard work, and dedication in bringing this project to life and providing new educational opportunities for students throughout our school district! #LCisHome
