Lawrence County Schools Meet and Beat State Averages in New State Scores!

LC Schools is thrilled to share that all our schools have achieved yellow or green rankings, with none falling into the orange or red categories. We are proud of the progress and momentum within our district! Additionally, we are delighted to announce that ALL of our schools have received a blue ranking for School Climate & Safety. These are truly exciting times for Lawrence County Schools!

The Kentucky Department of Education released its official school accountability performance scores today, showing that Lawrence County Schools are moving forward and competing strongly across the state.

On the 2025-2026 state assessment results (KSA), every single assessed school in Lawrence County achieved a yellow or green rating, with no LC school scoring red or orange.

Meeting or exceeding the state average at all schools was a major district goal. Today's release of state data confirms that all Lawrence County schools are now performing at or above the Kentucky state average. When compared across the 15th and 16th regions, Lawrence County Schools also rank solidly alongside neighboring districts.

School-by-School Performance Breakdown
Each school across Lawrence County demonstrated strong performance and continuous growth relative to state standards:
● Blaine
○ The elementary level at BES earned a yellow overall rating, performing at KY state average and showing growth in all assessed areas.
○ The middle school level at BES earned a green overall rating, performing above the state average.
● Fallsburg
○ The elementary level at FES earned a green overall rating, performing above KY state average and showing growth in all assessed areas.
○ The middle school level at FES earned a green overall rating, performing above the state average.
● Louisa East Elementary School:
○ The East earned a yellow overall rating, performing at KY state average in assessed subjects.
● Louisa Middle School:
○ LMS earned a yellow overall rating, performing at KY state average.
● Lawrence County High School:
○ LCHS earned a green overall rating, performing above state average for KY high schools.
● ***Louisa West ---since KSA begins at 3rd grade the West does not receive KSA scores.

Building on Progress
Today's official state results show clear proof of steady, continuous progress across Lawrence County."State test scores do not tell the whole story, and a single test is not everything," said Superintendent Katie Webb. "However, these scores are a tool that helps us look closely at how effectively our schools are serving our kids academically. Meeting and exceeding state averages across our campuses was a goal we set together, and achieving yellow and green ratings across the board is certainly a positive. But this is one goal met, not the finish line. Our new goal is for every single school in our district to achieve blue status, or green at a minimum (meaning our schools consistently perform above the state average).”

Student Voices: School Climate and Safety Survey
In addition to academic testing, state reports also measure the quality of school life through the annual Quality of School Climate and Safety Survey. This is an anonymous survey that students complete on their own at the end of state testing. Because responses are completely confidential, students can speak freely about how safe they feel at school and how well school leaders listen and resolve issues.

In this year's survey, all 5 assessed Lawrence County schools scored blue regarding school safety and climate, significantly exceeding state averages across the district in this area.
"Our main job every single day is educating children, keeping them safe, and helping them grow into successful adults," added Superintendent Webb. "Real learning happens in our classrooms every day through structured lessons, caring adults, and high expectations. The feedback directly from our students shows that we are building a good culture where respect, safety, and academic success go hand-in-hand. Our schools are not perfect, because humans are not perfect, but our kids consistently reported on this survey that they see our goals are to keep them safe and cared for."

In the coming days LC staff will continue reviewing details of state assessment results, and use this work to build on this momentum and continue raising standards and performance for the 26-27 school year.

LC Families,
We want to remind our LC families about our partnership with Three Rivers Medical Group, which provides school-based telehealth services to support your child's health. Telehealth visits typically address non-emergency, routine health issues during the school day—such as mild illness evaluations (rashes, sore throat, earaches, or cold symptoms) and routine checks.

Things to know about our Telehealth program!
Parental consent is required: Students only participate in school-based telehealth evaluations if a completed consent form from a parent or guardian is on file with the school district. The LC Telehealth Form at can be downloaded at
https://aptg.co/6dcBy4.

Telehealth supplements primary care, rather than replacing it: The program provides convenient, on-site acute and routine care at school, but it does not replace your child’s regular primary care doctor or require you to switch providers.

Visit summaries are shared with your family doctor: To maintain continuity of care, a detailed summary of every school telehealth visit is sent directly to your child's primary care physician.

The primary goal is to reduce lost instructional time for students and save parents from leaving work for minor medical visits. If you have questions or concerns about the Telehealth program, please contact Natalie Wellman, LC Health Nurse Coordinator, at natalie.wellman@lawrence.kyschools.us.

LWES Kindergarten Teacher, Ms. Anna Allen, Showcases KMC Numeracy Counts Academy!

Ms. Allen, a kindergarten teacher at LWES, is utilizing KMC Numeracy Counts, which is helping her students build math fluency and develop a positive attitude toward mathematics.

Mrs. Allen started by asking the class how many students were present, for a total of 18. She prompted the children to brainstorm effective ways to count the class. One student suggested counting the number of boys and girls. The students grouped, and the class counted the total together. They reviewed using their math counters; each one holds 10 units for easy counting. Next were math centers, with each group focused on a different mathematical enrichment activity.

Allen is in her second year at the KCM Numeracy Counts Academy, which helps educators deliver learning strategies that strengthen six fundamental mathematical domains and promote flexibility, efficiency, and accuracy.

Ms. Allen shared, "We learn to effectively plan, teach, assess, and communicate about elementary mathematics so that all students leave elementary school with fluency and a strong preparation for higher-level mathematics. I love using everything that I have learned so far within the academy in my classroom. I love seeing my students become more confident and fluent in mathematics. I am excited for year #2!"
