Congratulations to Miss Nevaeh Schwan, a junior LCHS art student, for having her artwork design chosen and featured on t-shirts at the 2025 Healing Appalachia Festival! Mrs. Brown, the LCHS art teacher discussed how five of her art students submitted designs to the director of Healing Appalachia. Ultimately, Nevaeh's design was selected to be featured on t-shirts and sold at the festival. Mrs. Brown explained, "By gate opening of day two, our shirts were completely sold out. And it was actually the first of all the shirts to do so."
Nevaeh shared how she decided on the direction of her design. "I wanted to do something different. I felt like many designs might feature a deer, so I decided to use and draw the fox. I added in the butterfly, the phases of the moon, and fern leaves. I was very surprised to be selected, but I feel like is a great thing, a big thing." The proceeds from the t-shirt sales will benefit the LCHS Visual Art Program. Mrs. Brown plans to use the funds to purchase Apple iPads and Pencils to offer her students a digital art class.
The art class was also asked to design an installation piece to be displayed at the entrance. Mrs. Brown shared, " My kids knocked it out of the park! To say I am beyond proud is an understatement." Mrs. Brown and her students had an amazing experience at the event. Mrs. Brown shared, "Thank you to everyone involved with Healing Appalachia! Thank your for this amazing experience and support! It has been an honor to work with these fine folks."

His classes feature multiple activity stations that allow students to engage with the material interactively. “Part of my system is having students explore the new subject material through visiting various activity stations. Then afterward, we come back and talk about it.” It has been noted that activity stations help to promote student engagement by encouraging movement, differentiation, and collaborative learning for students. Mr. Wells hopes that by dividing the scientific material into smaller, more digestible sections, activity stations will improve student engagement and understanding, while offering personalized support for each student.
