Congratulations to FES Library Media Specialist, Mrs. Moore-Frame, on being selected to be on the Kentucky Academic Standard Revision Team! Mrs. Moore-Frame shared, "I am honored to represent Lawrence County Schools and the students of Fallsburg on the statewide standards review board for Library Media Studies. I try to maintain an innovative teaching style that blends core content with cutting-edge technology. My goal is to show students that the library is a laboratory for all learning.  I hope to strengthen the KAS for Library Media to prepare learners to be digitally connected, engaged, and self-directed citizens. I look forward to working with the Kentucky Department of Education to ensure our standards foster curiosity and collaboration, helping every student in Kentucky—from the cities to the countryside—become ethical creators and critical thinkers. We are starting our review in January and hope to have it completed and approved by the start of the new school year.” We are excited for Mrs. Moore-Frame and know she will provide valuable input during the review! #LCisHome

LCHS & LMS students attend KYA: Louisa Middle team passes their 1st-ever bill!

Today, we are proud to spotlight our LMS and LCHS students who recently participated in the Kentucky Youth Assembly (KYA) conferences at Crowne Plaza in Louisville, KY. We celebrate their dedication and success in engaging with real-world government processes. KYA allows students throughout the commonwealth to serve as part of a model state government. Students role-play as legislators, lobbyists, and media in a mock state government. They have the opportunity to debate real issues, develop critical thinking skills, and present their views to audiences. We thank Mr. McCoy, our LCHS social studies teacher, for leading and chaperoning both groups throughout their KYA conferences.

Congratulations to Louisa Middle School on its first-ever bill being passed, addressing maternity and paternity leave for state employees. The bill was presented by a team comprised of Preston Ward, Jordan Gibbons, Braelyn Spradlin, and Jazmyn Thompson. The LMS KYA program is funded by a three-year grant bestowed by the Jeff Bezos Foundation. This grant covers all costs for our students to attend KYA.

Both LCHS and LMS presented various bills to audiences and gained hands-on experience with the legislative process, expanding their understanding of government. Our students' opportunity to participate in these conferences was an exceptional educational experience! #LCisHome
