LCHS & LMS students attend KYA: Louisa Middle team passes their 1st-ever bill!
Today, we are proud to spotlight our LMS and LCHS students who recently participated in the Kentucky Youth Assembly (KYA) conferences at Crowne Plaza in Louisville, KY. We celebrate their dedication and success in engaging with real-world government processes. KYA allows students throughout the commonwealth to serve as part of a model state government. Students role-play as legislators, lobbyists, and media in a mock state government. They have the opportunity to debate real issues, develop critical thinking skills, and present their views to audiences. We thank Mr. McCoy, our LCHS social studies teacher, for leading and chaperoning both groups throughout their KYA conferences.
Congratulations to Louisa Middle School on its first-ever bill being passed, addressing maternity and paternity leave for state employees. The bill was presented by a team comprised of Preston Ward, Jordan Gibbons, Braelyn Spradlin, and Jazmyn Thompson. The LMS KYA program is funded by a three-year grant bestowed by the Jeff Bezos Foundation. This grant covers all costs for our students to attend KYA.
Both LCHS and LMS presented various bills to audiences and gained hands-on experience with the legislative process, expanding their understanding of government. Our students' opportunity to participate in these conferences was an exceptional educational experience! #LCisHome

Message shared from Lawrence County Tourism:
We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all those who supported the 2025 Turkey Trot. $7,433.66 was raised and (more promised) for food insecurity in Lawrence County Ky. This mist notably goes toward the LC family resource centers (aka backpack program), as well as a large amount of nonperishable food for God’s Food Pantry. Wishing you a blessed Thanksgiving!
From Louisa /Lawrence County Tourism Commission.
