LMS Career Studies Class: Design A Food Truck Business Plan
Eighth-grade students from Ms. Donahoe's Career Studies class at Louisa Middle School had a fantastic time working on an assignment focused on designing a food truck business plan!
Assignment Overview:
In the first part of the assignment, students were tasked with the following:
- Name the food truck
- Describe the type of cuisine it offers
- Craft a catchy slogan
- Provide a brief overview of the target customer base
In the second part, students ventured into creating an original menu:
- List five food items
- Include detailed descriptions for each item
- Set prices for the menu items
At last, each student showcased their business design to the class. Given the current food truck phenomenon happening in our society, this fun, relatable exercise encouraged students to think creatively and envision their own future food truck business. #LCisHome

LC Schools Bus #201 was involved in a minor fender-bender after picking up students from Louisa West and Louisa East. Thankfully, there were no injuries! The police are on the scene and are currently clearing the accident. Please be aware that students may arrive home a few minutes later than usual due to the event! Thank you! #LCisHome

Regular School Attendance is important for:
1. Academic Success: Students with regular attendance keep up with lessons and assignments, are involved with classroom discussions, and are more likely to understand concepts.
2. Social Skills: School is not only for academics! Students learn to interact, negotiate, and build relationships with their classmates and teachers. Regular attendance nurtures social interaction and emotional growth.
3 . Future Success: Students with good attendance are more likely to graduate high school, pursue higher education, and have a secure job in the future.

The Lawrence County Board of Education has set the tax rates for SY 2026-2027 on August 27, 2026.
• Real Estate Tax Rate: 61.9 cents per $100 of assessed value
• Personal Property Tax Rate: 62.5 cents per $100 of assessed value
• Motor Vehicle/Watercraft Tax Rate: 35.0 cents per $100 of assessed value
• Utility Tax Rate: 3.0%
Note: This rate represents the state-calculated “compensating rate with exonerations” and is not subject to a public recall vote under KRS 132.017.

Claire Dutton, an 8th-grader at Louisa Middle, had an amazing week showing livestock at the Kentucky State Fair! Preparing for the show requires a tremendous amount of effort. Each day, animals need to be fed, watered, and trained to get them ready for the show ring. We are thrilled to share Claire's achievements from the 2026 KY State Fair!

As we begin this school year, we celebrated our school district's summer achievements! The board presented the LC Food Service staff with certificates for providing over 57,000 meals to our LC families. Blaine Middle School celebrated with an open house to welcome the STAR Academy, which awarded a $1,000,000 grant to enhance 7th- and 8th-grade classes. The Back-to-School luncheon was also a profound success, uniting our teachers and staff throughout the district. The Lawrence County Professional Learning Conference 7.0 (LCPLC) offered sessions that taught positive, proven teaching techniques.
As we kick-start the new school year, we are excited to announce the start of design schematics and renovation work for Louisa East and the new Louisa West (formerly the LC Community Center). This initiative will create space for a first-grade wing at LEES. Additionally, our LWES preschool and kindergarten will transition into their newly renovated building. We can’t wait to provide these upgraded facilities to our students and families!
